The Legislative Assembly approved with a majority of votes, including that of the VAMOS party, the Law to Promote the Use of Renewable Energy, an initiative presented by the Government of El Salvador through the Ministerio de Medio Ambiente y Recursos NaturalesThis legislation seeks to transform the national energy matrix and offer sustainable and innovative alternatives so that more salvadorans can access basic electricity service through the use of clean sources such as solar, wind, and geothermal energy.

The main objective of the law is to allow users to generate, consume, and reinject electricity into the distribution grid, using systems approved by the competent authorities. This opens the door for households, businesses, and public institutions to become producers of their own energy, reducing costs and contributing to environmental protection.
Furthermore, the legislation promotes the decentralization of energy supply, fostering independence from traditional sources and enhancing the use of clean technologies. This not only represents a step toward sustainability, but also an opportunity to boost the country’s green economy by creating jobs and attracting investment in the energy sector.

With this law, El Salvador is moving toward a more fair, efficient, and sustainable energy model, in which citizens can actively participate in energy production and companies will have a solid legal framework that guarantees technical, legal, and fiscal certainty. The approval of this legislation reaffirms the country’s commitment to the energy transition and caring for the planet.
