The president of the Empresa Transmisora de El Salvador (ETESAL), Edwin Núñez, highlighted in a television interview the progress made since 2019 to strengthen the country’s energy infrastructure, in accordance with President Nayib Bukele’s vision for productive and social development.
Núñez emphasized that this year alone, ETESAL has guaranteed electricity supply for 1.5 million users, including homes, businesses, and industries. “Since we took over at ETESAL in 2019, we have focused not only on carrying out necessary maintenance but also on implementing the new projects entrusted to us by the President to guarantee development throughout the country”, he said.

In economic matters, the official emphasized that companies interested in investing in renewable energy projects arrive in the country every week, a trend that requires robust transmission infrastructure to connect to substations and operate efficiently. “The important thing is not only where the energy is generated, but also having the infrastructure to deliver it throughout the country”, Núñez explained.
El Salvador currently has more than 3,000 megawatts of installed capacity, enough to meet national demand and support new investments. The stability of the energy system has been key to attracting manufacturing, tourism, and technology projects—sectors that demand high-quality energy to expand.

Projects to boost economic development in the country
The president of ETESAL highlighted the near completion of two strategic projects:
• The new Tamanique substation, which will improve the quality of electricity service along the coastal strip of La Libertad and La Paz.
• The Talnique–Tamanique transmission line, which will strengthen distribution in the region.
Both projects will benefit more than 16,000 users in municipalities such as Tamanique and San José Villanueva, and will also support the tourism and commercial growth of Surf City 2 in the eastern part of the country.
Núñez reiterated that ETESAL is “the backbone of energy in El Salvador”, given that all hydroelectric, geothermal, solar, and wind power generation is integrated into the system through its transmission network. Therefore, maintenance and expansion work is essential to ensure an efficient and continuous supply.

Energy as the foundation for development and tourism
The president of ETESAL emphasized the importance of having a reliable energy supply to support international events such as surf tournaments and to boost tourism in general. “All this energy to develop not only this event, but all the events we have in the country, is part of the President’s vision to guarantee an efficient and high-quality supply”, he said.
With the execution of the assigned projects and the strengthening of the national grid, ETESAL is consolidating its position as a key player in economic growth, attracting investment, and improving the quality of life for salvadoran families.
