The Tribunal Supremo Electoral reminded salvadorans residing abroad of the details of the remote online voting mechanism that will be available for the 2027 general elections, as part of the process of modernizing the electoral system and expanding citizen participation.
According to the institution, citizens with an updated Documento Único de Identidad (DUI) showing an address abroad can vote digitally from any device with internet access, including mobile phones, tablets, or computers.

The agency explained that this system is designed to facilitate voting for the salvadoran diaspora, eliminating the need to physically travel to polling places and allowing greater flexibility to participate in the electoral process.
The voting period will run from january 30 to february 28, 2027, during which salvadorans abroad will be able to cast their votes for the election of the President and Vice President of the Republic, as well as for members of the Legislative Assembly.

The TSE reiterated that one of the fundamental requirements for accessing this voting method is having an updated address of residence abroad on the DUI. The deadline for completing this process is november 29, 2026, a prerequisite for being registered in the system.
The institution stated that this mechanism is part of the efforts to strengthen electoral inclusion for salvadorans living outside the country, as well as the implementation of technological tools that aim to make the democratic process more efficient and accessible.
