The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) reported on the implementation of a project that has improved safety and operational conditions at six customs posts in El Salvador through the installation of LED lighting systems funded by a non-reimbursable technical cooperation grant.
The initiative focused on strengthening the physical infrastructure of border crossings by installing modern lighting fixtures that provide better visibility in inspection areas. These types of improvements are essential for the daily work of customs personnel, especially during shifts that run 24 hours a day.
According to the BCIE, the implementation of LED lighting facilitates operations on the tarmac, as it provides greater clarity during inspections, scans, and document validation. This not only streamlines processes but also reduces risks associated with poor visibility, particularly at night.

Customs personnel noted that better lighting conditions allow for greater control over the environment, which directly contributes to enhancing security at these strategic points. Full visibility of work areas also facilitates the timely detection of any irregularities.
Furthermore, the modernization of lighting represents a step forward in terms of efficiency, as LED technology offers greater durability and lower energy consumption compared to traditional systems, which translates into long-term operational benefits.

The regional organization emphasized that these actions are part of its commitment to institutional strengthening and infrastructure improvement in the region, promoting conditions that facilitate trade and ensure safer processes.
Through such initiatives, BCIE continues to support efforts aimed at modernizing key areas of the country’s economic activity, contributing to a safer, more efficient environment that meets the current demands of international trade.
