El Salvador has experienced remarkable growth in the tourism sector, reaching a 46% increase in the number of international visitors between december 21 and 31, 2024, compared to the same period in 2023. According to data from the Ministerio de Turismo (MITUR), a total of 172,000 tourists arrived in the country during those ten days, marking a milestone in the recovery and growth of the salvadoran tourism industry.
This increase in international visits has been part of a positive trend that has continued throughout the year. During all of 2024, El Salvador registered the arrival of 3.96 million tourists, which represents a significant improvement over the previous year, when 3.37 million visits were registered. The Ministry of Tourism highlights that this figure reflects the success of international promotion strategies and the strengthening of tourism infrastructure.
The boost of tourism in El Salvador has not only been due to its natural and cultural attractions, but also to MITUR’s efforts to diversify the offer of destinations. The country’s beaches, volcanoes, and history have been key factors that attract tourists from different parts of the world. In addition, the promotion of special events and improved air connectivity have been fundamental to this sustained growth.
The number of visitors also underscores the growing interest in El Salvador as a tourist destination in the Central American region. In december 2024, El Salvador exceeded expectations by receiving 431,674 international tourists, marking a difference of 54,445 additional visitors with respect to the same month of the previous year. This positive trend reinforces the country’s reputation as an accessible and safe destination for tourism.
MITUR projects that this growth will continue in 2025, driven by new tourism projects and the strengthening of alliances with international agencies.
