Written by Evelyn Alas

As part of the actions carried out by Walmart de México y Centroamérica in El Salvador in favor of the environment, 60 associates from different areas of the company carried out a volunteer day that consisted in cleaning 1 kilometer of the Coatepeque Lake.

The activity was developed in coordination with the "Glasswing International" Foundation for the benefit of the "Fundación Coatepeque", through the "Better Solid Waste Management" program, which began in 2017 under the "1 Km limpio" project, which seeks to eliminate garbage from the 17 kilometers of the lake's street, and thus prevent it from reaching the watershed and subsequently the water.

In april of this year, the company also benefited this tourist destination with a corporate volunteer program that included reforestation in the watershed and the donation of US$3,000 to Fundación Coatepeque for the maintenance and fertilization of the 500 reforested trees for two years.

"This volunteering is part of several sustainability actions that Walmart has been carrying out for several years in order to meet the goal of becoming a regenerative company. Through this volunteering, we are positively impacting one of the most important tourist destinations in El Salvador", said Sandra Cáceres, Corporate Affairs Coordinator for Walmart in El Salvador.
