Crisis in Panama could affect salvadoran imports

Written by Miguel Crespin

Due to the social crisis in Panama, members of the industrial sectors of that country have seen their exports limited, as reported by the international media, which indicate that due to the closing of portfolios their merchandise cannot go to the rest of Central America.

In a press conference given to La Prensa Panamá, the President of the Industrial Union of Panama, Raúl Montenegro, mentioned that several panamanian industries that had scheduled exports to other Central American countries, have cancelled them and that buyers in other countries have already looked for other options in other markets.

Panamanian businessmen have pointed out that it is necessary to take the necessary measures to solve these problems, which are affecting the economy of that country, since the losses can bring consequences in the future that would be detrimental.

It should be remembered that the main imports that El Salvador makes from Panama according to the Ministry of Commerce and Industries of Panama are agricultural products and agro-industrial products such as lead, medicines, iron for construction, soap and paper.

In 2020 alone Panama exported US$6,750,348.00 to El Salvador, while national exports earned a total of US$85,344,650 according to reports from panamanian authorities.
