In a press conference, members of the Centro para la Defensa del Consumidor (CDC), requested the authorities to increase the minimum wage by 25% in order to be able to face the current market prices.

This increase would raise the salary to a total of US$456.20 in the commerce and services sector; while in the agricultural sector the salary would reach a total of US$304.32, which would benefit almost one million people in El Salvador.

The executive director of the CDC, Danilo Pérez, explained that in order to reach this conclusion, studies were carried out on the price of the current basic food basket, to determine how much money can be used to meet the basic needs of salvadoran families.

The CDC published a table with the salaries that could be applied next year, where it is described that the sectors of commerce and services; industry and sugar mills will receive an increase of US$91.20, while the sectors of coffee harvesting, cotton processing and agriculture and livestock will receive US$60.86.
