Gasoline to decrease up to US$0.06 in the three zones of the country

Written by Evelyn Alas

Gasoline will present a decrease in its prices that will be in effect from September 7 to 20, 2021 in the three zones of the country, according to the Ministerio de Economía (MINEC).

In the next 15 days salvadorans can take advantage to fill the gas tank of their vehicles because superior gasoline is the fuel that will present a greater decrease in its prices in the three zones of the country with a variation of US$0.06, for regular gasoline being the most requested by salvadorans for being more economical will have a slight decrease of US$0.02. Also, if you are a driver of trucks, buses and pick up, diesel is the only one that will not present a greater decrease being US$0.01.

Likewise, fuel prices will oscillate between US$3.92 and US$3.16, but MINEC indicates that this value published by the Ministry is suggested and gas stations are the ones who establish it, according to supply and demand.

The reference prices include the taxes in force, such as the Impuesto Especial a los Combustibles (IEC) and the Contribución para la Estabilización de las Tarifas del Servicio Público del Transporte Colectivo de Pasajeros (COTRANS).

In addition, MINEC indicated that: "the prices published by the Ministerio de Economía  are suggested and the service stations are the ones who establish them, according to supply and demand".

The reduction in fuel prices is due to external factors such as:

The agreement reached by the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and allied countries to increase production for the month of September is maintained, and the volatility in gasoline and diesel reserves, due to the passage of hurricane "Ida", reported by the International Energy Agency (IEA).
