The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through the Directorate of Diaspora and Development and the Consulate General of El Salvador in Calgary, Canada, organized the visit of Diaspora businessman Salvador Montalvo, interested in marketing coffee from El Salvador.

This businessman is originally from Santa Tecla, currently has two decades of residing in Canada, during his stay he toured the farm, in this way he was able to taste the pacamara, a native variety that is characterized by its intense fruity and floral aromas. He was also able to learn about other varieties that are harvested in the territory.

"We are salvadoran and the navel is tied to the country and despite all the years we want to do trade, in addition to benefit the country, more now that it is changing and give a boost to our El Salvador", said the businessman who has identified the potential to place the salvadoran grain in the markets of Canada.

He also said that salvadoran coffee is very different from what they are used to in Canada, because in most places it is very commercial; on the other hand, salvadoran coffee is special.

He is convinced that this beverage can have a place in this North American nation because "there are always people who want to have a good cup of coffee", a competitive advantage that, without a doubt, is found in the salvadoran product.

For this reason, he thanked the Foreign Ministry and the Consulate in Calgary for the support provided in this approach. "Without the help of Consul Juan Salamanca I would not be here", he said.

Likewise, the businessman had the opportunity to hold a meeting with the director of Diaspora and Development, Gerardo Pérez, and the president of the Instituto Salvadoreño del Café, Mauricio Sansivirini, opportunity in which they expanded the information about the golden bean, as well as the support that this portfolio of State offers to the nationals who want to commercialize this product abroad.

In this space, President Sansivirini and ISC personnel provided him with historical information, as well as the cultivation zones, among other technical information that will be key to this process.

During his visit, he also toured the coffee processing and packaging plant, where he was able to explore the various packaging options, sizes, and shipping methods available to expand the export and commercialization opportunities of salvadoran coffee in that market.
