The Asociación Cafetalera de El Salvador announced the export of the first container of coffee beans as part of the Chamani project to the company Five Points Trading Corp, from the United States.

Sergio Ticas, president of Acafesal, said that the agreement with the company benefits coffee growers by guaranteeing preferential prices for their coffee and promoting more sustainable agricultural practices. The value per quintal is US$210 and more than 500 quintals will be exported.

Members of Acafesal emphasized that this is an innovative project to support small coffee growers in the country who have faced challenges due to low international prices and the lack of a comprehensive coffee policy in previous administrations.

The event was attended by Vice President Felix Ulloa and the Vice Minister of the Ministerio de Agricultura y Ganadería (MAG), Oscar Dominguez, who reaffirmed the commitment to work for the renewal of the coffee park as part of the strategy to improve the country's economy.

"We are fulfilling several objectives, the first is to strengthen the coffee industry, support exporters and generate employment in rural areas.

In addition, we are promoting the environment. These projects would not have been developed with the gangs, because they mutated until they reached the rural communities; now with the war against the gangs we are cleaning those areas and we are beginning to see an economic reactivation in agriculture", said Vice President Ulloa.
