Fuel price hikes continue in El Salvador

The Ministerio de economía (MINEC) announced new prices for gasoline and diesel in different areas of the country.

The new variations in the reference prices of fuels in the country, for this fortnight, are presented as follows:

  • Premium gasoline will increase US$0.02/gallon in the three zones of the country.
  • Regular gasoline will increase US$0.01/gallon in the three zones of the country.
  • Low sulfur diesel will increase US$0.05/gallon in the three zones of the country.

 The Ministry of Economy announces that the reference prices for fuels, effective from june 15 to 28, 2021.

The price variation is due to external factors such as:

  • Reduction in oil inventories in the United States, reported by the International Energy Agency (IEA).
  • Slow progress in sanctions against Iran to export oil and derivatives.
  • Uncertainty in production by the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and non-member countries.

The prices published by the Ministry of Economy are suggested and the service stations are the ones that establish them, according to supply and demand. In El Salvador, liquid fuel prices are liberalized.
