The Economy Commission issued a favorable opinion for the creation of the " Ley de Facilitación de Compra en Línea sin Fines Comerciales ", which will go to plenary session next week, with the purpose of facilitating the payment of customs duties for purchases without commercial purposes.

Individuals, who purchase products online from the United States, for non-commercial purposes and for personal use, may be exempted from duty payments on goods or products of any origin and electronic platform of their choice.

The Vice Minister of Finance, Mario Rodolfo Salazar, said that the proposal aims to generate the legal basis to guarantee, streamline and protect electronic commerce, also seeks to expand the importation of products and establish a ceiling on the value of goods purchased online, as well as facilitating the import process.

If this law is approved next week in plenary session of the Legislative Assembly, it will seek to boost the country's economy, based on a legal framework that regulates traders and protects consumers.

In addition, the director general of Customs , Samadhy Martínez, said that the General Directorate of Customs will inspect couriers, express delivery companies or parcels to verify that the goods originating from online purchases are delivered to consumers.

Salazar explained that it is necessary to have a legal framework to support local traders and consumers who purchase goods abroad.
