The Ministries of Finance and Economy presented before the Legislative Assembly a bill to exempt from Income Tax (ISR) the Christmas bonuses received by public and private employees up to an amount equal to or less than US$1,100.

The Minister of Economy, María Luisa Hayem, expressed that they have presented this new action in order to accompany salvadoran families in these difficult times faced by salvadorans, like many citizens around the world.

She also said that with this law initiative, there will be a tax exemption for the Christmas bonuses of salvadorans that are equivalent to the mentioned amount.

The director of Internal Taxes of the Ministry of Finance, Marlon Vásquez, detailed that the measure seeks to benefit approximately 650,000 employees, equivalent to 91 % of the salaried employees, that is to say, more than US$23 million that will serve to strengthen the economy of the salvadoran families benefited by this initiative.

With this measure they seek to support salvadorans who have been affected by different factors that negatively impact the economy, due to the global crisis generated by the COVID-19 pandemic.
