Written by Evelyn Alas

The Ministerio de Economía (MINEC), informs salvadorans that the new variations in fuel prices present an increase of US$0.43, US$0.33 and US$0.29 for this fortnight that will be in effect from march 22 to april 04, 2022.

People who fill their vehicles with super gasoline will see an increase of US$0.33 and US$0.32 in the central, western and eastern zones with a suggested price of US$4.68 and US$4.63.

Those who use regular gasoline will pay US$0.29 more in the central, western and eastern zones, contributing between US$4.48 and US$4.44.

Transporters will see an increase of US$0.43 in diesel and will pay between US$4.61 and US$4.67 at their preferred gas station.

According to MINEC, the US$0.28 CONTRANS tax and the US$0.10 FEFE tax have already been applied to this new variation in order to cushion the impact on the salvadoran family economy.

Likewise, the price of a barrel of West Texas crude oil is US$110.41, while a barrel of Brent crude oil is at US$114.40.

Analysts and oil experts expect the price of a barrel of crude oil to continue to rise and fall over the next few weeks as the geopolitical conflict between Russia and Ukraine continues.
