The Financial System indicators show that the evolutions of savings accounts as of the third week of september were US$5,845 million, 13.3% more than the US$5,157 million of 2021.
In addition, the amount of loans granted by the banking sector registered an inter-annual growth of US$1,511.6 million in the same period, reflecting the economic activity of the country.
The year-on-year growth of loans in banks, cooperatives and Sistemas de Ahorro y Crédito (SAC), for this year was US$17,056 million, 9.7% more than last year's US$15,544 million.
Also the number of savings accounts with simplified requirements shows remarkable growth since 2019, reaching a total of 178,331 as of august 2022 reflecting the results of facilitating access to this financial product.
The growth goes from 2018 with 174 savings accounts, 23,431 in 2019, 86,432 in 2020, 112, 783 in 2021.
Cuenta Simplificada o Cuenta de Expediente Simplificado (CES) is a financial product that allows citizens to open an account in a simple way; just by presenting their valid identification document and a telephone number.
