From january to august 2022, 70,411 new workers entered the formal sector

Data from the Instituto Salvadoreño del Seguro Social show that between january and august 2022, a total of 70,411 new workers have registered to contribute to this system. These are people entering the formal labor market for the first time.

The increase in employment is an indicator that shows that companies are confident to continue betting on the country.

In the private sector, the total number of new workers grew by 11% compared to 2021: 64,492 people are already covered by the institute.

Construction is the activity where there was the most significant increase, with a variation of 1,579 people registering for the first time, equivalent to a 54% variation.

It is important to remember that public investment is among the government's bets to stimulate more projects from the private sector.

Thus, the total number of contributors until july 2022 is 943,200, according to the ISSS.  This, compared to june 2020, the most complicated month due to the effects of the pandemic, is an increase of 133,191 people.  In the same line, the total number of beneficiaries covered by Social Security has reached 1.9 million people.

Health services have undergone a notorious modernization during the current presidential administration. The institutions have improved the channels of attention, the equipment to provide care and intensified prevention.

The activities of commerce, restaurants, lodging, professional services and administrative services were the ones that grew the most in total contributors: up to july of this year, they added 32,956 workers to their payrolls, with a total of 449,171 between them.
