According to official data from the Ministry of Tourism, during the first six months of this year, more than 5.1 million people have visited different recreational parks, beaches, lakes, rivers, archaeological sites and protected natural areas, among other tourist sites throughout the salvadoran territory.

"Tourism in El Salvador continues to grow in safe spaces for all", confirmed said portfolio of State, which detailed that "5.1 million people have visited our public tourist, cultural and natural sites".

This number is very flattering, since only in the first six months of 2023, about 84% of the 6.5 million visits obtained in the whole of last year, by salvadorans residing in the country, have been registered.

Regarding the arrival of international visitors, the institution reiterated that, between january 1 and june 30, the country received more than 1.6 million foreign visitors, who left the country US$1,667 million in foreign exchange income.

He also highlighted that those more than 1.6 million international tourists, among which there were at least 100,000 salvadorans, represented an increase of 37% over the same period last year and 27% compared to 2019, when global tourism activity stagnated, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Data from the Ministry of Tourism also reveals that 57% of foreign visitors entered the country by air and 43% did so through the different land borders.

The average registered stay of these visitors is two to three weeks, with an estimated daily expenditure of US$161. Most of these tourists come from the United States with 45%, followed by Guatemala with 22% and Honduras with 14%.

These successful results in the growth of domestic and foreign tourism will definitely make it possible for the country to far exceed the projections of receiving more than 2.9 million visitors from abroad.
