MARN receives US$15 million to strengthen conservation and environmental protection in 2025

The Ministerio de Medio Ambiente y Recursos Naturales (MARN) will have a budget of US$15,792,564 for the next fiscal year 2025, a figure that was presented to the deputies of the Finance Committee in a recent meeting. This amount will allow MARN to continue its work in the protection and recovery of El Salvador’s natural resources.

During the session, the Minister of Environment, Fernando López, stressed the importance of having a solid institution in environmental issues, capable of implementing policies, strategies and scientific research projects. “We are the leading institution in environmental matters”, he said, noting that the budget will be key to maintaining efforts to protect the country’s natural environment.

One of MARN’s main objectives for 2025 will be the preservation of the 208 natural protected areas in the national territory. These areas represent vital spaces for El Salvador’s biodiversity and require constant monitoring and care to prevent their degradation.

In addition, the allocated budget will allow for the continuation of programs focused on the conservation of emblematic species, such as felines, crocodiles, caimans, cetaceans, spider monkeys, and the yellow-naped parrot. These programs not only contribute to the preservation of Salvadoran fauna, but also promote environmental education and public awareness of the importance of each species.

Among the most ambitious projects for the coming year is the production and planting of more than one million forest and fruit plants, an initiative aimed at reforestation and recovery of key ecosystems. These efforts help mitigate the impact of climate change and improve the quality of life of communities.
