Tourism in El Salvador closed the year 2024 with record figures, reaching between US$3.5 and US$3.6 billion in foreign exchange thanks to the arrival of 3.9 million visitors. The Minister of Tourism, Morena Valdez, highlighted that the growth of the sector has been boosted by the security in the country, which has strengthened the confidence of international tourists.

El Salvador’s global positioning has also improved significantly, with an increase of 35 positions in the country brand. According to Valdez, this recognition is due to the transformation of the country’s image, which has resulted in a greater attraction of visitors. Destinations such as the Historic Center of San Salvador and Surf City in La Libertad continue to renew themselves and attract more tourists.
For Easter Week 2025, MITUR projects the arrival of 135,000 international visitors, mainly from Guatemala (36%), the United States (29%), and Honduras (21%), which will generate approximately US$111 million in foreign exchange. In addition, an estimated flow of 1.7 million domestic and foreign tourists is expected, with more than 521,000 people visiting the Historic Center of San Salvador due to religious festivities.

The minister emphasized that tourism not only reflects the state of society, but also promotes economic opportunities. The recovery and modernization of tourist areas have been key to consolidate El Salvador as an attractive and safe destination.
The Government will continue implementing strategies to promote tourism as an engine of economic development, ensuring that the country maintains its growth and recognition internationally.
