Educators committed to transforming lives through education

Written by Evelyn Alas

Educators today have had to adapt and adopt new teaching practices, technology has become an important tool for education. The fundamental job of teaching is no longer to distribute facts but to help young people learn how to use them by developing their skills to think critically, solve problems and create knowledge that benefits both students and society.

In this context, the work of Fundación Gloria Kriete's (FGK) Programa Oportunidades stands out, with a valuable team of 45 educators, they have managed to train 3,987 young people through education complementary to school, understanding that their most important role is to get to know each student as an individual to understand their unique needs, learning style, social background, interests and abilities.

This program has been characterized by developing a unique learning method in the country, using technology and other innovative tools to offer students different educational experiences. Teachers are undoubtedly an important part of the program's success, as they have been able to adapt and adopt new teaching practices.

"In all the educational programs we work with at Fundación Gloria Kriete, we have seen the tremendous impact teachers have had on students. They are not just educators; they are role models who inspire and motivate young people to cultivate their talents, pursue their dreams and give the best of themselves", commented Juana Jule, executive director of Fundación Gloria Kriete.

Teachers are increasingly at the forefront of the changes demanded by this new era, introducing students to the knowledge, skills, values and abilities to become well-rounded citizens. But educators need support and empowerment to reach their potential as agents of change, therefore, FGK also invests in the professional development of teachers in all its different educational programs, who are training early childhood in the Aprendamos Juntos program, operated by Agape; there are also the teachers of Fundación Forja forming the character of children and young people in the communities of the foothills of the San Salvador volcano and Lake Coatepeque; there are the coaches of ONUVA with the Talitha Kumi project.

Educators who train in applied technologies to the young people of the Kódigo academy, teaching them to program and finally also supporting the staff of Ludoteca Naves of the Hospital Bloom with whom they train doctors, nurses and volunteers who accompany them in their daily work with the children inside the hospital on good practices in mental health to doctors, nurses and volunteers who accompany them in their daily work with the hospital's children.

"Our trainers follow the students through each fundamental stage in their development. With five to six hours a day, five days a week, the educators are poised to become one of the most influential people in our students' lives. Not only do they see them grow, but they also help them grow as well-rounded citizens", Jule said.

Teaching is recognized as one of the most challenging and respected professional options, absolutely vital for the social, cultural and economic development of the country, for this reason, Fundación Gloria Kriete has the firm commitment to work so that both educators and students have within their reach educational tools that allow them to have a better future.
