Executive seeks to reach 2.5 million wallets equivalent to US$75 million with the use of Bitcoin

The minister of Finance, Alejandro Zelaya indicated during a television interview given this morning, that the government seeks to reach around 2.5 million wallets for transactions and voluntary payments to be made either with dollars or Bitcoins without charging commissions.

"We believe that in El Salvador there may be about 4 million wallets, but our ideal goal is 2.5 million wallets", detailed the holder.

The law, which will come into force on september 7, seeks to provide equity and monetary integration to the salvadoran population. The President of the Republic affirmed in a national chain, that those who register in the "Chivo" application will receive US$30 in Bitcoin. This amount will be financed with the Fondo General de la Nación.

The latter is the name given to the application that will function as a digital wallet in El Salvador, which has been designed by the government. According to the minister, this tool is secure and will facilitate transactions with the cryptocurrency.

"There is an international community interested in investment, in trade, which is what we seek to attract with the use of cryptocurrency. The bitcoin is a decentralized currency that represents an opportunity for economic growth and development as a country and society", expressed the holder.
