The minister of Finance, Alejandro Zelaya arrived at the Legislative Assembly to present a bill to temporarily exonerate from taxes the reception of humanitarian aid by nationals, international organizations or embassies.

The special provisions delivered by the official contemplate the exemption of payment of all types of taxes and duties, including the Value Added Tax (VAT), to those goods or services that enter the country as part of international cooperation or donation.

The minister explained that the tax benefit will be applied on donations made to the Government of El Salvador to exclusively address the effects of the national emergency caused by tropical storm Julia.

He said that at this moment the instruction of the President, Nayib Bukele, is to make available all the necessary funds to be able to rebuild our country due to the damages caused by the storm Julia.

He also said that they have made available financial resources for the purchase of food in the 90 shelters set up nationwide.

In addition, they have managed some donations with multilateral organizations. He also stated that help has been received in the territories from other actors who have contributed to the cause. He emphasized that more than 15 thousand members of the relief corps have been deployed nationwide, not counting the employees and officials who have traveled the territory.
