With more than 25 years of experience in the medical field and now as head of the digital health team at Samsung Electronics, I spend a lot of time reflecting on how technology can actually drive progress in healthcare, rather than being just another innovation with no clear purpose. That is why I’m so excited about artificial intelligence (AI), as it offers new ways to address many of society’s healthcare problems by simplifying complexity on a grand scale.
In our ongoing work to reinvent healthcare, Samsung is leveraging advanced AI algorithms and extensive technical expertise to develop solutions like Energy Score. As we showcased at Galaxy Unpacked 2025, this feature quantifies physical and mental energy levels across multiple health metrics, including sleep, heart health and physical activity. Our vision is to include more holistic metrics, such as nutrition, mental health, and additional mobile usage patterns, to provide a holistic view of users’ health status, powered by AI.
AI has great potential for early disease prevention by analyzing patterns and behaviors, detecting abnormalities, and even predicting potential health problems. By combining our long-standing sensor innovations with AI leadership, we seek to strengthen our capabilities in disease prevention beyond sleep apnea by expanding into cardio-metabolic conditions. In particular, blood glucose monitoring is a big area of focus for us, and Samsung has been working on developing a sensor algorithm that predicts early signs of diabetes, along with non-invasive blood glucose monitoring technology and an integrated nutritional counseling system.
Our goal is to support proactive health management, reducing health burdens for individuals, families, and communities at large. I am convinced that AI will revolutionize the digital health industry and simplify the path to wellness for all. As a global technology leader, Samsung is uniquely positioned to make this a reality, thanks to our mix of technology innovations and an ever-growing ecosystem of partners.
