The overall Índice de Precios al Productor (IPP) increased by 0.28% in january 2026 compared to december 2025, rising from 136.14 to 136.52 points, according to official data provided by the BCR.
The result reflects mixed performance across different productive sectors, with moderate increases in manufacturing and services offsetting slight declines in other areas, leading to a general rebound in the indicator during the first month of the year.
Sectors that drove the increase
Among the activities with the greatest impact on the rise, the manufacturing sector stands out, increasing from 141.08 points in december to 141.31 in january, representing a growth of 0.16%. This performance reflects adjustments in factory production.
The accommodation and food services sector also showed dynamism, rising from 157.07 to 157.5 points, equivalent to 0.27%, associated with greater demand in hospitality activities.
Likewise, the administrative services sector registered one of the most notable increases, rising 0.60% from 132.55 to 133.35 points.
Other sectors that contributed positively were:

Transportation and storage, with a 0.06% increase (from 116.89 to 116.96).
Real estate activities, which grew 0.11% (from 127.69 to 127.83).
These sectoral increases were key to the overall index closing January with a positive change.
Stable or slightly decreasing sectors
In contrast, some activities showed stability or moderate reductions. The supply of electricity, gas, steam, and air conditioning barely changed, decreasing by 0.02%, from 130.28 to 130.3 points.
Meanwhile, the water and sanitation sector decreased by 0.06%, falling from 123.4 to 123.33 points.

The largest drop was recorded in human health care activities, with a reduction of 0.65%, from 126.1 to 125.28 points, possibly linked to seasonal adjustments in medical costs.
Overall Balance
According to data from the BCR, the IPP performance in january 2026 was marked by moderate increases in manufacturing, administrative services, hospitality, and transportation, which offset the slight decreases observed in sectors such as health and basic supplies.
Compared to december 2025, the indicator showed a slight but sustained increase, reflecting internal variations across different production sectors at the beginning of the year.
