The Defensoría del Consumidor awarded prizes this thursday to the winners of the sixth annual Audiovisual Production Contest on Consumer Protection in Product and Service Safety, an initiative aimed at students of higher education institutions with the goal of promoting knowledge and the correct application of the Consumer Protection Law.
During the ceremony, awards were presented to the best entries. First place received a prize of $1,000, as well as a plaque and a diploma; second place received $700, while third place was awarded $500. The audiovisual productions were evaluated by a jury that considered creativity, technical quality, and the relevance of the content to consumer rights.
In the 2026 edition, students from nine higher education institutions participated, submitting a total of 68 audiovisual proposals focused on product and service safety. Since its inception in 2021, the competition has received 330 entries, addressing topics such as e-commerce, promotions and offers, warranties, artificial intelligence, the right to information, and misleading advertising. This year, the focus was the safety of products and services.
The president of the Defensoría del Consumidor, Ricardo Salazar, explained that each proposal underwent a technical evaluation process to verify that the content complied with the provisions established in the Consumer Protection Law.

“These 68 projects correspond to nine participating higher education institutions, and from there, a process was carried out in which a technical evaluation was first performed to establish that the audiovisual content complied with the provisions of the Consumer Protection Law”, the official said.
Salazar pointed out that the theme chosen for this edition reflects the importance of guaranteeing the safety of the products and services that consumers purchase, since this aspect is also part of their fundamental rights, along with access to clear information, warranties, and protection against misleading advertising.
He also recalled that Article 101 of the Constitution of the Republic establishes the State’s obligation to protect consumer rights, a principle also supported by the Consumer Protection Law.

Mefi Boset Enrique Rivas, representative of the judging panel and professor at the School of Communications of Universidad Don Bosco, highlighted the continuity of the competition and the students’ interest in addressing issues of social impact.
“I appreciate the trust that the Defensoría del Consumidor placed in us for this competition. The fact that this initiative has continued for six years speaks to the true value of this platform; as judges, we evaluate creativity, technical quality, and the relevance with which consumer rights are addressed”, he said.
The Defensoría del Consumidor promotes this competition as part of its efforts to strengthen education on consumer rights, encouraging university students to participate in the development of content that contributes to informing and raising awareness among the population about safe and responsible consumption.
