This morning in an event in downtown San Salvador, the Ministerio de Trabajo y Previsión Social started the surveillance phase to verify compliance with the minimum wage increase of 20% throughout the country.

The minister of Labor, Rolando Castro, indicated that there will be more than 700 workers of the Ministry of Labor who will verify compliance with the minimum wage increase.

"All sectors: industry, commerce and agriculture will have to comply with the minimum wage increase. No sector, no company will be left without complying with the present decree of minimum wage increase", minister Castro detailed in the act.

From August 16, a section will be enabled on the FIREMPRESA website, in which employers of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) may register to obtain the subsidy for the increase in the minimum wage, which came into force on sunday august 1, as announced by the head of the Banco de Desarrollo de El Salvador (BANDESAL), Juan Pablo Durán, a couple of weeks ago.

"As the Ministry of Labor, we will not allow a single dismissal. Our inspectors will verify the payrolls starting this month", explained the minister of Labor.

The new salary for industry, commerce and services is US$365, maquila, textile and clothing US$359.16, coffee and sugar cane and sugar harvesting, US$272.66, while for the agricultural sector US$243.46.

The head of BANDESAL, said that MSMEs must meet two requirements in order to receive the subsidy, in which he highlighted the following: be registered as employers in the Instituto Salvadoreño del Seguro Social (ISSS) and have a maximum of up to 100 employees.

Durán said that once the employer's information is validated, the equivalent amount will be deposited to the savings account provided to cover the reported increase in the minimum wage.

The following are the steps to follow to obtain the subsidy from the FIREMPRESA program:

Starting august 16 we will enable a section on the FIREMPRESA website, where employers will be able to register.

The ISSS will send monthly (for one year) to BANDESAL the payroll of the registered company, through the system".

Validation with the information received from the ISSS, the employer's return sent by the employer.

Once the employer's information has been validated, we will deposit to the savings account provided the equivalent amount to cover the increase to the minimum wage reported.

Once the deposit has been made to the employer's account, the financial institution and the beneficiary company will be informed so that they can execute the operation.
