AES El Salvador to invest US$ 236 million in the five-year period 2024-2028

AES El Salvador through its energy distributors: AES CAESS, AES CLESA, AES EEO and AES DEUSEM, announced its investment projection of US$ 236 million for the next 5 years; and US$ 58.3 million for 2024.

The energy company will develop strategic projects for the modernization and expansion of the power grid and will allocate funds for the implementation of cutting-edge technologies to guarantee world-class service to its customers.

US$ 41 million to raise service standards

To respond to the growing demand for electricity from the industrial, commercial and residential sectors, this year the energy company will allocate US$ 41 million to optimize and expand the electricity distribution network. Projects in this area include:

  • Expansion of energy capacity in distribution substations.
  • Repowering of circuits and installation of new equipment in the network to improve service reliability.
  • Continued maintenance of distribution lines and replacement of energy meters.
  • Acquisition of diagnostic equipment for subway networks.

In this same category of investments, AES will execute various projects in the communities where it has a presence, benefiting the lives of families to promote their sustainable development in the economic and social spheres. These include:

  • Projects of social benefit and improvement in the quality of service.
  • Connection of new supplies.
  • Rural electrification projects and Normalización de líneas a terceros (NLT).

Also, in line with the government's plans for the stylization of public spaces, AES El Salvador will continue to invest in different projects for the conversion of electrical grids to subway. This year, the energy company will use this technology in the Ruta de Las Flores, in the western region of the country, to contribute to the visual revitalization of public spaces and guarantee the reliability of the energy service in tourist areas.

With these operational initiatives, AES El Salvador will continue to accelerate the future of energy in the regions where it operates, promoting economic and social development through access to optimal, constant, and safe electricity service.

US$ 17 million to promote digital transformation in the electricity sector.

During this year, AES El Salvador will also focus its investment on the development of innovative projects to integrate more technology, artificial intelligence, digitalization and automation in its technical operations and commercial management. The most emblematic axes of this investment are:

  • The renewal of its commercial platforms and digital communication portals to provide a more agile and efficient service to its customers.
  • Renewal of software and hardware platforms to optimize technical operations.
  • Remodeling of the Operations Control Center for better monitoring of the power grid.

Additionally, in this same area, during 2024, AES El Salvador will reinforce its investments in the implementation of new generation technologies and resilient energy distribution infrastructure to accelerate the country's energy transition, among which the following stand out:

  • Implementation of AMI (Advanced Metering Infrastructure) smart metering technologies for the predictive detection of distribution network equipment failures, allowing for timely remote maintenance.
  • Construction of compact networks to prevent energy theft and guarantee optimal service.
  • Expansion of the urban electric vehicle fleet to reach 24 units in operation, thus promoting sustainable mobility.

AES: Historically committed to the social and economic development of El Salvador

AES detailed that, through its energy distribution companies, in the last eight years (2016-2023) it made an investment of US$343 million. And, in line with its commitment to positively impact the country, it announced that for the next five years (2024-2028), it plans to invest US$236 million.

With these investments, AES El Salvador reinforces its commitment to the transformation of the electricity grid, thus promoting the economic and social development of the country to accelerate, together with its residential, commercial, and industrial customers, the future of energy.
