Movistar El Salvador, the country's telecommunications leader, announces the renewal of its environmental certification under ISO 14001:2015 for the period 2023 to 2025.

This accreditation, awarded three years ago by the Spanish Association for Standardization and Certification AENOR, represents Movistar's vision and commitment to sustainability to be a green operator, friendly to the environment.

During this year, the company has worked tirelessly on the renewal of its certification to improve and strengthen its Environmental Management System, and its alignment with local and international standards. Movistar's network, the most modern in the country, incorporates cutting-edge technology, which in addition to offering the latest in connectivity, is designed to reduce and minimize environmental impact by modulating its energy consumption according to the traffic and data usage of consumers.

All of the company's internal processes are aimed at environmental preservation. Among the most notable data to be highlighted are:

  • The recycling of 322 tons of waste such as batteries, copper, aluminum, cardboard and other electronic waste.
  • The replacement of 99% of air conditioning equipment with eco-friendly units that do not damage the ozone layer.
  • 100% compliance with legal environmental regulations, the requirements of international standards and other voluntary requirements acquired by the company.

Movistar El Salvador, the only telecommunications company in the country to be certified under this ISO standard, establishes rigorous standards and controls in all energy and water consumption, establishing maximum consumption parameters and reduction strategies to generate a lower impact with carbon footprint emissions, ensuring the protection of natural resources. In addition, the company has also implemented new strategies by implementing "Green Purchasing", with the initial goal of having 35% of supplier purchases comply with environmental requirements by 2023 and increasing to 50% by the following year, marking a milestone in its environmental commitment.

"This renewal of the ISO 14001:2015 certification reflects our commitment as a strategic ally of all our customers, the country and society. We are determined to continue leading the way in the telecommunications industry, demonstrating that it is possible to offer cutting-edge services and at the same time protect our planet", said Eduardo Solórzano, director of Corporate Affairs.
