Undersecretary Lago arrives in El Salvador to promote business alliances

The Assistant Secretary of International Trade, Marisa Lago, arrived in El Salvador to strengthen bilateral relations, encourage increased trade and investment, strengthen the business environment and promote U.S. business solutions for digital opportunities in Latin America.

The official was received by the U.S. Ambassador. "Marisa Lago, and her delegation, who are visiting El Salvador to contribute to efforts to increase direct investment in the country and support the work of developing a digital policy towards El Salvador's goal of becoming a regional technology hub," the embassy posted on its social networks.

In San Salvador, Deputy Secretary Lago met with government officials and industry representatives to discuss key priorities in the U.S.-El Salvador bilateral relationship, including collaboration in the business environment and the digital economy.

She will meet with Minister of Economy María Luisa Hayem, Secretary of Trade and Investment Miguel Kattán, and other officials to learn about El Salvador's digital regulatory environment and discuss tools to facilitate trade and economic growth.

On november 11, Undersecretary Lago will travel to San José, Costa Rica, where she will meet with senior government officials to discuss ways in which the U.S. government can strengthen collaboration in the digital economy, cybersecurity and health technology sectors.

She will also participate in a discussion with U.S. and local businesses on the creation of the Americas Partnership for Economic Prosperity (APEP) Center of Excellence to discuss bilateral efforts to strengthen supply chain resilience and support economic growth in critical digital technology sectors.

Undersecretary Lago will also visit Boeing's facility to see their joint work with Costa Rican maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) provider COOPESA and learn how they are working to meet global demand in the air cargo industry. He will meet with other U.S. companies to learn about their work supplying U.S. medical devices and pharmaceuticals to Costa Rica and the region.

She will also meet with leading women entrepreneurs to discuss how the U.S. government can create an enabling business environment for women leaders and advance issues for the upcoming Women Entrepreneurs Trade Mission to Costa Rica, led by the U.S. Department of Commerce in march 2024.
