Salvadoran coffee priced up to US$70 per pound in Cup of Excellence

The minister of Agriculture, David Martinez, was pleased to say that this has been a "great day" for salvadoran coffee. The Cup of Excellence auction ended with high prices for coffee growers for each pound of the best golden bean. At least six coffees managed to exceed 90 points.

In the auction held this day it can be observed that salvadoran coffee was positioned with an average price per pound of US$22.52, while the maximum price per pound was US$70, paid by BIGFACE Coffee.

"This has been an enriching process, together with the Consejo Salvadoreño del Café six new producers were discovered during the process and two new varieties were integrated, such as San Bernardina", reads the information provided by the Ministry of Agriculture.

It was also possible to have new buyers that will prove the excellence of salvadoran coffee around the world; countries such as: Japan, China, Korea, United States, Norway, Thailand and Bulgaria.

Each of these coffees has been tasted a minimum of five different times during the cupping process. The winning lots are the top 30 coffees that scored above 87 in the Cup of Excellence Global Coffee Centers. The coffee is packaged in 30 kg boxes containing two 15 kg vacuum-packed bags.

The National Winner lots are coffees that obtain more than 85 points during the International Phase by the National Jury and the International Cup of Excellence Jury. Each of these coffees has been tasted a minimum of five different times during the cupping process.
