If you have already paid your electricity or water bill for january 2025, don’t worry, that amount will be converted into a balance in your favor. This was explained by President Nayib Bukele, assuring that those who have already paid these bills will see the credit reflected in their next bills.
For example, if your electricity bill was US$70 including possible surcharges, such as taxes, outstanding balances, among others, and you paid it, that money will cover future bills. If in february your bill is US$50, you will not have to pay anything, and the remaining US$20 will be deducted in march. Assuming that your february bill exceeds the US$80 equivalent to the economic relief for electric energy, only this amount will be subtracted and you must pay the difference.
In the case of the water bill, the economic relief is for an amount of up to US$30, so if you paid this month’s bill for the same amount, you will have this amount in your favor for the month of february.
If you have not yet paid, you do not need to take any action. The distribution companies will automatically manage this benefit, applying it as a discount in the invoices. This means that during january, you will not see charges for these services in your budget.
The benefit is designed to alleviate expenses during the month of january, considered one of the most difficult financially due to Christmas and back-to-school expenses. However, normal bill payment will resume in february 2025. Authorities urge citizens to use this relief responsibly to better plan their finances.
With this measure, the Government seeks to support salvadoran families at a key moment, offering an economic respite that will allow them to face the challenges of the beginning of the year with greater peace of mind.
