The Historic Center Authority of San Salvador, in partnership with the mobility platform Uber, announced the implementation of five strategic pick-up and drop-off points on the outskirts of the Historic Center of San Salvador, as part of a pilot program aimed at improving traffic flow and enhancing the visitor experience.
The initiative seeks to optimize traffic flow in one of the capital’s fastest-growing tourist areas by facilitating access through designated spaces within the Uber app. According to the Authority’s director, Adriana Larín, this measure represents an important step in consolidating the Historic Center as a growing tourist, cultural, and artistic destination.
The five designated spots have been strategically located, considering factors such as street width and traffic flow. They are situated near La Lotería, Avenida España, Avenida Cuscatlán, the former Apolo Cinema, and the corner of the La Dalia Portal. The selection responds to the need to reduce congestion on narrow streets in the historic center by relocating passenger pick-up and drop-off to more suitable areas.

According to authorities, the project arises in the context of sustained visitor growth. In 2025 alone, the Historic Center registered a 15% increase during Holy Week compared to 2024; a 35% increase during the August holidays; and an 80% increase during the Christmas season, which has increased the demand for more efficient mobility solutions.
Furthermore, the Historic Center Authority plans to expand this model to other high-traffic areas, such as Rubén Darío Street, Simón Bolívar Square, and areas near the Universidad Tecnológica de El Salvador and nearby hospitals, depending on the results of this initial phase.

The agreement also included the participation of Uber representatives, among them Carolina Álvarez, Senior Associate for Public Affairs for Central America, and Sylvia Alvarado, Director of Public Affairs for Central America, the Caribbean, and the Andean Region.
With this action, the authorities seek not only to improve mobility but also to strengthen urban planning in the Historic Center, adapting it to the growing tourist flow and promoting safer and more organized access for digital transportation users.
