Greg O'hara, new chairman of the WTTC board of directors; Australia to host next global tourism summit

At the closing of the 23rd Global Summit of the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) in Kigali, Greg O'Hara, Founding Partner and Director of Certares, was appointed as the new Chairman of the organization's Board of Directors.

It was also announced that Perth, Australia, will be the next host of the Summit, to be held in late 2024, in partnership with Tourism Western Australia. O'Hara, who has been a member of the WTTC Executive Committee since 2019 and Vice Chairman since 2021, will assume the position later this month and will succeed Arnold Donald, former President and CEO of Carnival Corporation.

Julia Simpson, President and CEO of WTTC, highlighted the work and leadership of Arnold Donald for his enormous contribution to WTTC during his tenure, and assured that Greg O'Hara will bring great experience and a deep knowledge of the sector, with which, WTTC will have new scopes in an industry that is growing faster than the global economy.

Arnold Donald said, "It has been an honor to serve my fellow WTTC members. The collective efforts of our members, through public-private partnerships, have proven instrumental in our industry's recovery from the economic and human effects of COVID. "I am delighted to pass the baton to Greg, a WTTC member who is a highly committed and distinguished global leader in the travel and tourism industry", Donald said.

Greg O'Hara said, "It is a great privilege to take over the reins from Arnold Donald, a giant in our industry. I will support our members, the WTTC and Julia Simpson as the industry continues to grow stronger. The WTTC and Tourism Western Australia will reinforce, through Summit 2024, the growth and development of this economic activity at a global level, in addition to highlighting the incomparable destinations and events that Western Australia has to offer to domestic and foreign tourists".

Finally Julia Simpson, said: "Perth promises to elevate the Global Summit experience, offering attendees a taste of the hospitality and adventure that Australia has to offer par excellence".
