The Banco Central de Reserva de El Salvador (BCR) as the governing body for the country’s macroeconomic and census statistics, is conducting the first Encuesta Nacional de Primera Infancia, Niñez y Adolescencia (ENPINA), This initiative will generate specialized statistical information on the population aged 0 to 17. The survey has the technical support of UNICEF and the collaboration of the Ministry of Health.
This study will strengthen the production of official statistics and contribute to the formulation, monitoring, and evaluation of public policies focused on the well-being and comprehensive development of early childhood, childhood, and adolescence.
The survey aims to collect representative and reliable information on the living conditions, health, nutrition, education, protection, and development of Salvadoran children and adolescents, providing up-to-date statistical evidence for decision-making in various areas of public administration.

To this end, visits are planned to approximately 15,500 households in urban and rural areas across the country’s 14 departments. Interviews will be conducted with parents, caregivers, children, and adolescents selected from a statistical sample that ensures the representativeness of the results.
Health assessments will also be carried out, including measurements of weight and height, vision evaluation, and blood sampling, performed by trained personnel following technical protocols and international standards.
As part of the process, participating families will receive a record with the individual results of their children’s health assessments, information that can serve as a reference for their medical follow-up.
“The Banco Central de Reserva in exercising its functions as the governing body for the country’s economic and social statistics, assumes institutional responsibility for conducting this survey. Having rigorous, representative, and timely information on children and adolescents is essential for public policies to respond to the realities of each region and each Salvadoran family”, said Douglas Rodríguez, president of the BCR.

The Encuesta Nacional de Primera Infancia, Niñez y Adolescencia (ENPINA), marks a milestone for the country, as it is the first specialized nationwide survey focused exclusively on early childhood, childhood, and adolescence. Its implementation reflects the BCR institutional commitment to strengthening and expanding the production of strategic statistical information for national development.
The survey’s sample design was developed using probabilistic and random methods in multiple stages, ensuring territorial and age-group representativeness, as well as the quality, impartiality, and reliability of the results.
With the implementation of this project, the country will have up-to-date information on key aspects related to health, nutrition, education, protection, family environments, artistic and sporting activities, among other elements relevant to the development of children and adolescents.

The Banco Central de Reserva invites the selected families to actively participate in this national effort. Their collaboration will be key to generating statistical information that contributes to the design of public policies and programs that promote better opportunities for present and future generations of salvadorans.
